@a1ba @lain they are fast. i sometimes try to write code for an open source rust project, to add features i want. on a 2020 macbook pro (intel processor), it can take 50+ seconds to rebuild after changing a few lines of code. on a 2021 macbook pro (m1 pro processor), the same change with the same rust compiler takes roughly 20 seconds.

@a1ba @lain repairability is: something goes wrong, you pack it up and send it back to apple. it’s worse with every generation. the build quality doesn’t seem any worse than the 2018 15” macbook pro i had.

since i still work from home, my laptop is pretty much a desktop – i put it on top of two thick books to raise the display and attached an external keyboard and mouse. i go into work maybe twice a month. bonus: i don’t need to bring a charger with me.

the difference in price between the 14” and 16” 2021 macbook pros was under $100 at my local dealer, so i bought the 16” (or rather, got work to buy me the 16”). that was probably a mistake – 2.1 kg vs 1.6 kg.
